A combo stand that converts into a junior boom. Pull the centre column out of the stand, drop it into the pivoting collar, and the same stand becomes a boom arm — no separate boom to buy, nothing extra to carry to location.
As a stand it reaches 5.1m and carries 30kg. As a boom it carries 30kg at its shortest extension of 1.55m, falling to 8kg fully out at 2.68m — enough for a medium fixture with a softbox or umbrella on the end. The arm finishes with a 14mm hole for a counterweight.
The universal stand top does three jobs at once: a 28mm (1-1/8″) junior receiver, a 16mm (5/8″) baby receiver, and a multi-directional 16mm baby stud. Whatever fitting the fixture arrives with, the top will take it without an adaptor.
One leg levels independently of the other two — the rocky-mountain leg — so the stand stands square on stairs, a slope or rough ground. Double leg struts brace it, and the legs are square-ended with pads to protect both the legs and the floor.
The details that decide how long a stand lasts: a solid cast aluminium knob on a stainless bolt, a stainless steel heli-coil insert in the die-cast riser so the threaded hole cannot strip, a hanger cast into the upper spider for rack storage, an eye ring for a wind-bracing kit, and an oversized brake shoe for a firm lock-off.
